Ultimate team reaches new heights

The ultimate team started its season best in state, and is hoping to have a strong finish.

Senior Andy Haroldson is in his third season of the sport and said he is very happy with the team’s skill.

“We were first in state and it was cool to see us up there at the start of the season.” Haroldson said.

The team was first in state from April 29th to May 5th, and is currently ranked 21st.

Coach Charlie Landis said he believes in the ability of this team.

“My goal is to finish the season a seat 15-20 or higher,” said Landis. “I think this team is very capable of this. In the past we have never been seated higher than 29th.”

As well as this, Landis said he believes a great deal in these players.

“This team is much more dedicated to winning than other ones. I am very proud and impressed with them. The fact that we were number one in State shows how capable this team is,” Landis said.

Landis also noted the team’s strengths.

“There are 27 people on the team. Having a lot of kids is an advantage because we can have subs meaning the players can be rested, and therefore run harder and gave better defense.”

Freshman Jacob Raatz said he appreciated being on this team.

“I really enjoyed the team, it’s a really good group of guys,” said Raatz. “I just learned how to play Ultimate at the beginning of the season and I feel like I have learned a lot.”

Landis said he is proud of how far the team has come.

“We went from a team that was a group of friends to a program that will go very far.”

The State Tournament is May 31 and June 1 first in Blaine. Landis said he hopes the team will prove its true potential.

“I think this team can finally showcase what they can do,” Landis said. “I want them to win our Saturday pool, as well as the Division II bracket. I know they are able.”
