For the nineteenth consecutive year Synchronized Swimming won sections and is now going to the State competition.

Senior captain Hannah McDonell said she has gone to State with all of her routines since she began swimming at a high school level in seventh grade. She credits the success to the team’s work ethic.

“We have morning practice at 6:30 along with our after school practice. We always give 100 percent in our workouts,” McDonell said. “After practice we deck. Sometimes we are here until 8 to master our routines.”

Before practice, synchronized swimming coach Jessica Gust reads the girls a motivational passage from a book to keep the girls on their game. The girls also meditate to keep focused.

McDonell said she makes sure as a captain that she works to improve the team through her actions.

“I need to maintain a positive mental attitude for the whole team,” McDonell said. “I also make sure the new girls feel as important as the older ones.”

The state competition for girls synchronized swimming is May 22 and 23.
