After a semester of hard work, the World Drumming class plans on performing a compilation of songs they learned for the rest of the student body.

Band director Steven Schmitz said this is their second year doing this concert and they got a lot of positive feedback after it’s previous lunch performance.

“I add this performance depending on how good the class is,” Schmitz said. “This particular class is doing well, so I added this lunch concert.”

Senior Hannah McDonell is a student in the World Drumming class and said the class feels confident about this performance.

“I think everyone’s worked really hard this year,” McDonell said. “We have a lot of great enthusiasm and excitement.”

Schmitz said the students put together a playlist which includes West African, Latin, Caribbean, Irish and Native American music. The songs they play vary. Some have words, others are just beats.

Schmitz said he is very proud of this group of students and said the program overall came a long way in the past couple years.

“This class is excited and seems proud of their work,” Schmitz said. “They have worked hard and know this will be well received.”

Sophomore Ora Raymond said she thinks the drumming performance will create a unique lunch experience.

“I think it will be nice background music and that students will enjoy it because it gives people an opportunity to hear music played by other students,” Raymond said.

The concert is  during second through fourth lunch this Friday, May 16, outside the auditorium doors.
